Carol Turley - Candidate for PVUSD Trustee Area 2
Focus on Learning
Focus on Learning
Martin Luther King Jur.
I am running for PVUSD Trustee Area 2 to bring the board's focus back on learning. I am deeply committed to the students of the Pajaro Valley and supporting the learning environment so our young people can utilize their unique gifts. I am a problem solver who brings simplicity to complex issues, an active listener, and an experienced leader in times of crisis.
As an educator, promoting honesty and individual voice in students is a priority. When civic leaders lie and manipulate the process to silence people, trust is betrayed of young people especially. Acosta’s actions have been detrimental to our students and community.
I am proud to support Carol Turley for PVUSD Trustee Area II. Her dedication to Pajaro Valley public schools and her proven track record as a decades-long community leader make her the ideal choice for Trustee. Carol has consistently demonstrated her commitment to the Pajaro Valley, and her vision for excellence in education is both inspiring and achievable.
In contrast, while the incumbent, Georgia, has experience as the current Trustee, there are serious concerns about her handling of open meeting laws, protecting the rights of her constituents’ freedom of speech, and backroom deals. These concerns highlight the importance of choosing a candidate who not only has the experience of a leader, but also the integrity and dedication to serve our community effectively.
Leslie De Rose, MS.HEA
Former PVUSD Trustee
It is time to bring great leadership back to the PVUSD school board. Carol Turley will guide us in a new direction with a fresh approach, bringing the focus back to students, families, and teaching. We need a leader who listens and puts students first, this is Carol.
Carol has, for many years, been a pillar to Watsonville High School through her unwavering activism and support to the Interact club through her role as a Rotary club member. Throughout my three years as an Interact member, I was witness to her active role in ensuring students could access opportunities that would broaden their horizons. From leadership training, summer camps, international exchange programs and volunteering events; Carol was always ready to help plan, organize and guide us while also volunteering her time to supervise these events. A special memory of mine was having the interact club awarded by the local food bank with whom we would annually participate in their Thanksgiving food collection. Her embodiment of service above self, characteristic of the Rotary and Interact clubs, was so clear that it truly reflected towards the students under her supervision. Her many years of service as a mentor, her direct observation, guidance and positive impact make her a strong candidate to represent our Pajaro Valley Unified School District Students.
It is a pleasure and an honor to write this letter of endorsement on behalf of Carol Turley, Board of Trustees Candidate for District 2 in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District.
I worked as a teacher, counselor, assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent and last year as the Interim Superintendent of the PVUSD.
I first met Carol when I served as the Principal of Watsonville High almost 20 years ago for she had her kids at WHS and she was an active and involved parent. I have worked with Carol in the Rotary Club of Watsonville where she has provided direct community support for the kids at WHS as one of the sponsors of the Interact Club, as service club for WHS students. She was also involved with the job shadowing where over 100 WHS students shadowed a professional in the community. Carol is a giving and conscientious parent and leader in our community. She is an ideal candidate for the PVUSD Board of Trustees because of her intelligence, commitment and honesty. She works hard and has a reputation for her integrity in all that she does, a very needed characteristic for this Board of Trustees.
Carol’s theme is Focus on Learning, something some board members do not adhere to. The distractions at the board level will not be an issue for Carol. She will be visible on campus to see and learn directly about the difficult issues the PVUSD faces. She will honor her role as a board member to help develop policy that positively impacts our children’s learning.
I look forward to walking through my new neighborhood to talk with our voters about Carol Turley and what she will bring to our community and kids’ learning on the PVUSD Board of Trustees for District 2.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Murry Schekman
It has been my pleasure to know Carol Turley through our membership and service with the Rotary Club of Watsonville for more than 15 years. From the moment I joined Watsonville Rotary, it was clear that Carol was devoted to improving the lives of children and youth in our community. She was always the first to volunteer her time to lead Club efforts to support local youth through a variety of hands-on programs that focused on developing students’ potential for growing up healthy and ready to attend college and/or other secondary educational pursuits.
When I learned that Carol was running for a seat on the PVUSD school board, I could not think of a better candidate for this office. Her leadership in support of local youth over many years has been a source of pride and inspiration to all who serve with her in the Rotary Club of Watsonville.
I heartily endorse her candidacy for election to the PVUSD Board of Directors.
Carol Turley has been a robust supporter of the local youth in Watsonville, and has gone above and beyond for marginalized students in the PVUSD. Carol has selflessly advocated for my own and countless other students at Watsonville High. She has fought for unique and life changing opportunities to be brought to students both inside the classroom and out in the world through international exchange programs, supporting the drama programs, and fostering love for our local community through volunteering. She is a great supporter and preserver of local culture, arts and the spirit of service and volunteering oneself.

My father and stepmother, Owen and Marcia Hand, taught in the district for their entire careers.
My two daughters are PVUSD graduates and have benefitted from the excellent education they received here. They graduated from UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara. One is in her final semester of student teaching and will soon be a high school Social Studies teacher.
As a homeowner's association general manager, I manage a $2 Million dollar budget and oversee 15 employees. One aspect of my work is disaster preparedness and emergency response and I am known for my calmness during crises.
For pleasure, I love adventure and travel. I have enjoyed time in Colombia, Mexico, Canada, and Europe. Hiking and backpacking are my passions, but I live to swim and paddle.
I am keenly aware that good leaders/trustees can make a big difference in the lives of students and the health of our community. I pledge to serve our community with diligence and wisdom. If you desire a chaos-free governing body focused on respecting and caring for our students and staff and an environment that meets students where they are, please support me.
I need your help to win this race. Knocking on doors, word-of-mouth, hosting a meet and greet, and donating are all ways of helping us achieve our goals together. If you support public schools, a governing board that works with administration and staff to ensure student success, and programs that
